This is definitely not the best Mexican food in the city but for the price they charge, it's not that bad. Lunch time is crazy busy. I took the last available table when I came for lunch at noon today. This is not an order at the counter and get a number type of place. It's a sit down restaurant and you have a waiter. There were a lot of lunch specials for about $7-8. The food is not amazing and I've definitely had better. The queso is bland but I like their salsa. There is a drive thru for people picking up take out orders. This is a 2.5 stars kind of place for me. I would only come back during lunch break on a work day since it's nearby. The food comes out quickly and I can eat and get out within an hour which is exactly what I want. At any other given time, I wouldn't make the trip all the way to this corner of 23rd street just to dine in at Ricky's.

Ricky's Cafe is getting a bum rap here. It's not as terrible as the stars show. It's also not worth driving out of your way for. But, if you're in the area and have to pick a quick Mexican lunch, it's not bad. Fill up on chips and cheese. Dump your salsa in the cheese dip, it makes it better. Order a chimichanga from the lunch menu. On par with any of the other similarly priced Mexican places around.

Agree with Rex. Not worth going out your way but no outstanding Tex-Mex. The mole I would give 1 out of 5 stars - very little flavor, almost non-existent. Our waiter was really great, but probably awaiting a better job. Homemade tortillas were nice but like most tex-mex joints the last worst tortilla from the last group was stacked on top of your tortilla stack. Queso was bland. Salsa was bland. And worst of all the mole was super bland. Would be better if mi abeula de ireland was cooking. If my daughter hates the quesadillas then we know it IS bad. Mi enchiladas de mole were dry, tasteless chicken stuffed into tortillas and smothered with bland mole sauce. Did I mention how dry and tasteless the chicken mole enchiladas were? Please make this place disappear. Sad that its a bland, tasteless place on the outskirts of okc. Drivers beware...

Terrible. Some of the worst "mexican food" I have ever had. Both of our meals were bland and tasteless. There no visible beans in the refried beans. The rice was tasteless as was the salsa. I had the Chile Colorado and the beef was tough as shoe leather. Won't be back. Yuck. Pooey.

I've been here twice for lunch and both times I've regretted it and neither was I the one paying. They serve ok mexican food, hot, and quick. There are a lot better places you can go in Oklahoma City for that. The cheese enchiladas had a good flavor and a lot of chili sauce. The beans had no taste and the rice was dry and hard. I added salsa to the rice to give it any flavor at all. The queso had too much flower in it and it was almost glue by the end of my meal. I don't think I'll be coming back any time soon, but I don't think I'll pass up another free meal either.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
